The Beauty Way – Hozho Naah shaado
Presenter: The Rev. Leon Sampson
Many of our Navajo clergy have been serving our communities for most our lives, and we have been taught at an early age the history and way of life called, “the beauty way”, or Hozho Naah shaado. This covenant and way of life is the core of Navajo spirituality, this is also how we live out the Gospel. We will show how we connect with each other, and with our surroundings as a relationship with our contextual God.
Rev. Leon Sampson is part of the clergy from Navajoland Area Mission and serves in the Southeast Region of Arizona.
Episcopal Coalition for Racial Equity and Justice
Presenter: Ryan Kusumoto
The Episcopal Coalition for Racial Equity and Justice is a voluntary association of Episcopal dioceses, parishes, organizations, and individuals dedicated to the work of becoming the beloved community. The Coalition welcomes participation from all groups and individuals at every level of the church who faithfully engage in the work of truth-telling, reckoning, and healing for racial equity, justice, and the dismantling of white supremacy.
The Science of Conducting Efficient, Fair, and Effective Meetings
Part 2: Stepping beyond the basics
Presenter: NECW Parliamentarian, Dennis Clark
This workshop is a stand alone session that can build upon the basics from part 1. The anticipated outcome of this presentation is to prepare members to participate in and, if need be, preside over meetings by understanding the basic principles of parliamentary law. While few will ever know all the rules found in Robert’s Rules, a thorough understanding of the principles which the rules are based on will enable members to avoid contentious meetings which last way too long and get far too little accomplished. Other topics to be covered are the order of business (agenda) of a meeting; making and processing basic motions; and techniques for avoiding conflict.
Art Empowers
Presenter: Rebecca ‘Becca’ Gardner
Art promotes verbal and artistic self-expression, positive peer relationships and healthy living practices for young people. Talking Circles, a variety of creative activities, mentoring, outdoor games and shared meals build self-confidence and community. The program has reached its fullest expression at St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church, on the Ute Reservation in Northeast Utah.
Program Director Rebecca Gardner leads a team of Native women in carrying out weekly, after-school sessions. In this experiential workshop, Rebecca will invite the participants to join in a typical day of Art Empowers, including introductions and setting intentions, an art project and a closing circle, with an opportunity to ask questions at the end. To enhance the experience, the workshop will be limited to forty participants.
