It’s Medina’s “Believe it or not” Church

MEDINA, NY (WKBW-TV) — St. John’s Episcopal Church is Medina’s oldest church. Built in the early 1830’s with Medina sandstone taken from Orchard Creek nearby. The church is popular with visitors.

Free Tuesday night dinner has served thousands of meals since starting back in February

When the COVID-19 pandemic began, the Episcopal Church of the Covenant, continued their Tuesday night dinners.

Usually the free-to-the-community dinners took place inside the church, where people could enjoy one another’s company in addition to a hot meal, but social distancing and other hygiene concerns didn’t allow for that.

So they made changes and turned the dinner into a to-go event where volunteers packaged meals to be handed out to those in need.

Need has increased, the church has found, as many people have lost their jobs due to the pandemic and the crowds lining up to receive the meals has grown. […]

Bazaar goes on line

Because of covid-19, The Bazaar at St. John in the Wilderness has been rescheduled for May 2021. However an Online Preview Sale is under way until Sept. 15.

The fundraiser features fine artwork, jewelry, furniture, linens and silver with proceeds assisting local charities involving women, children and families.

Parishioners Cynthia Shannon and Linda Giltner co-chair the sale, presented by The Episcopal Church Women.

After received confirmation all sales are cash and final. Pick up is every Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon in the parking lot of the church’s Parish Hall through the summer.

Tuesdays are best for furniture pickup as help is on hand to load. However delivery is not an option.

“We have up to 80 women of the church organizing this tremendous effort,” Shannon said. “We are grateful for the public support that will enable proceeds to be used for community outreach benefiting thousands in our community and beyond,” Giltner added. […]
