Personal Information
I live in the coastal town of Hampton, New Hampshire. I have owned and operated an art and frame gallery for 27 years, which I recently relocated to Hampton. My husband, Len owns a human resource company, but is finding time to help me re-establish my gallery. If I can remember that he works with me and not for me, we may make it to our 45th anniversary next year.
My daughter, Lynn, lives in Conway Arkansas, with her entrepreneurial husband, Pete, and our only grandchild, Madeleine, who is, of course, perfect.
My twin boys, Michael and Keith live near Hollywood, CA and are working in the entertainment industry. Michael’s wife, Leslie, is pursuing an acting career and also helping the boys develop their own production company for animated films.
Work Within Church Structures
I attend Trinity Church in Hampton, in the Diocese of New Hampshire. As small parishes tend to do, I have been given many opportunities to serve in many roles. As the Diocesan ECW president and the Province I representative to the ECW National Board, I have learned much from vital Episcopal Church Women through my diocesan and provincial visitations.
As an ECW National Board member, beginning in 2006, I worked with the Social Justice Committee, which has opened my eyes to the needs of women globally. As a member of the Worship Committee, I had the pleasure of participating in and the teaching of our “Women of the Bible” studies.
But is it within the interconnected spheres of the creative arts and communication, that I have found my home on the present board. Some of you may have heard my nomination speech at the Triennial Meeting. In it, I outlined what I identified as my goals if I were to be the Vice President of Information and Communication for this triennium. I have included that speech in this article for all women to understand what I see as my responsibility as a member of the ECW National Board.
As Vice President of Information and Communication 2000-2012:
Excerpts from nomination speech:
Working with the National Board’s communication committee for the last 3 years has made me aware of a problem. It is a good problem and let’s see how many of you may recognize it.
Look at the exhibits around this room. Feel the energy in this room. Taste the excitement of all that your experience. Hear the inspiring words and work of our Chaplain and our musicians. Speak to one another.
My conclusion is that ECW women have a lot to share. We need to take this home to our congregations, our dioceses, and our provinces. So how do we do this?
For me, this is a healthy frustration.
We are so fortunate to be living and working in the fast moving age of electronics. There are so many ways of communicating. Remember when we first experienced email? Now we barely learn how to send smiley faces through facebook when we are asked to set up a Twitter account.
As your VP of information and communication, I am committed to find and use all methods of communication. I will keep you informed, aware, up to date and educated by whatever means available to me so that we not only communicate, we connect.
I will continue to develop our Communique into a publication that highlights the good works of all Episcopal Church Women. Whether or not you use a computer…subscribe to Communique. Better yet, submit your articles so other women can enjoy, learn and implement your experiences and knowledge into their own ministry.
The past years have been well spent initiating and developing ways to communicate with ECW women. Many hours and hard work of the women of past boards have made the Communique and website a great resource. Now it is the job of your communications committee and our talented Multi-Media Board member to continue this meaningful work.
But you need to do one thing for us. Talk to us. Tell us what information you want, or more importantly what information you need. What can we give you that would help you in your ministry.
We promise we will listen!
